I was attempting to cut lines of text out of a circle to create a project. I placed three lines of text on the circle, selected the circle and attempted to use the slice tool. Nothing happened, the slice tool was not available, I could not cut the text from the circle. After some trial and error, I determined the cause of my issue was that I was trying to slice multiple lines of text at once. Why is My Slice Tool Not Working in Cricut Design Space?
The Slice Tool in Cricut will not work if there are more than two items selected at a time. The Slice Tool will not work on a flattened Print then Cut Image. The Slice tool will not work on a multilayer image with more than two layers.
The Slice tool in Cricut Design Space will only work on two selections at a time. If you select more or less than two items you will not be able to use the Slice Tool in Cricut Design Space. If you have more than one items that you are trying to slice through the same shape you have a few options. You can weld the items before slicing or slice the items one at a time.
Another reason the slice tool may not be working, is that you are using a Print then cut image. I’ve found that when attempting to slice with a print then cut image, only portions of the image cut through the shape.
Another reason the slice tool may not be working is that you are attempting to slice with a multilayer cut image. In order to slice, you will need to weld the image. This still may not give the desired result, as welding multiple layers in the cut file can lead to a loss of definition in the final cut.
How to use the Slice Tool in Cricut Design Space
The Slice tool is located at the bottom right corner of Cricut Design Space. By overlapping two shapes, text or images, you can slice one shape from another to create a number of unique designs. See Below for some examples using the slice tool in Cricut Design Space.
How to Slice More than one Line of Text in Cricut Design Space?
If you have text on three separate lines that you want to cut through a shape you will need to weld them together or Slice each line of text separately. I have tried simply grouping lines of text together, but the slice tool was still unavailable.

I wanted to create the text for “Dream Plan Smile” using three different types of font. So each line of text was a separate design item. When I selected Dream Plan & Smile and the Circle and attempted to use the Slice tool, it was grayed out.

The finished product is that the text Dream Plan Smile is sliced from the circle. The result of the slice also leave a copy of the text in the same color as the circle.
How to Slice a Print then cut Image in Cricut Design Space
If you uploaded the print then cut image, then the best way to fix this problem is to upload the image again as a cut file.
