hi guys um today i'm here at my laptop
0:03
and i'm just gonna do a quick reaction
0:04
video to some tic tocs they're gonna be
0:07
some familiar faces some stylists
0:10
um some people who are not here for the
0:12
30 day hair detox some beautiful wash
0:14
and go results so stay tuned um this is
0:18
going to be fun
0:19
first up i have a familiar face this
0:23
person actually introduced me to the 30
0:25
day hair detox when i came across one of
0:27
her youtube videos and if you've been
0:29
doing any research on the third day here
0:31
detox you've probably come across her
0:34
channel
0:35
let's get into it
0:40
hi i am new to tick tock my name is pho
0:42
faux
0:43
on youtube under the same name where i
0:46
discuss on my channel i discuss natural
0:48
hair i discuss things in relation to
0:50
lifestyle
0:52
but i came over to tip top and i wanted
0:55
to discuss the no
0:56
oils and butters on natural hair so
0:59
a group of stylists that have
1:01
popularized this approach or other
1:03
stylists that are in agreeance with this
1:04
approach but black girl curls they have
1:06
popularized the use of no raw oils and
1:09
butters on hair so raw
1:11
as in raw shea butter that you might
1:14
pick up from the store to moisturize
1:15
your body or raw olive oil that you
1:17
might pick up to cook um these styles
1:19
that popularize that approach to natural
1:21
hair
1:22
and i have been
1:24
doing that approach for nearly two years
1:26
now and i love my hair my hair is
1:28
amazing i
1:30
have actually been natural for over a
1:32
decade but in the year of 2020 i decided
1:35
to big top and pursue healthier hair
1:37
care methods for my own hair and for my
1:40
own hair i noticed that the use of raw
1:42
oil and butter caused my hair to be very
1:44
brittle
1:45
caused my hair a lot of breakage shea
1:47
butter will make my hair feel very hard
1:49
and also the application of oils to my
1:51
scalp causes my scalp to have large
1:54
plaques large itchy plaques
1:56
um like you can push down on the plaques
1:59
of a crust and just break through them
2:02
and that's what my hair used to do when
2:03
i used to apply oil to my scalp so
2:06
i have been oil and butter free since
2:08
december of night of 2019 and um
2:12
this is my hair since i have big chop
2:14
this is about 19 months worth of hair
2:16
i'm enjoying this approach of the no raw
2:19
oil and butter approach and i hope that
2:21
my tick tock serves as a judgment free
2:23
space if you have any questions about
2:26
the no raw oil or butter on natural hair
2:28
approach and you want to see somebody
2:30
who has been successful with this
2:32
approach so
2:34
hi i'm pho and okay so that was
2:38
introducing herself
2:40
on tick tock at the first time
2:43
i came across information about the
2:44
third day hair detox was on foe's
2:47
channel and at first i almost didn't
2:49
believe her but her her hair was
2:51
receipts it was moving it was bouncing
2:53
um and just watching that progress was
2:55
like okay
2:56
let me go check this out and listen to
2:59
the stylist
3:00
and also hindsight is 20 20 because for
3:04
real when she started talking about
3:05
those little bits of hair snapping off
3:07
being dry and brittle you know despite
3:09
you know putting oils and brothers on it
3:11
i definitely experienced that because
3:14
even
3:15
and at work my cute mate would complain
3:18
like why not complain you know we were
3:19
cool but she would joke around and she's
3:21
like your hair is like all over the
3:22
place the same thing with my husband
3:24
like your hair is always all over the
3:25
place and it was just like my hair would
3:27
almost just like quit and
3:30
and snap off very easily
3:32
and that's not the case
3:34
the only place my hair now isn't is in
3:36
the bathroom where i style my hair it's
3:38
not all over the place just kind of
3:39
hopping off my head like it used to be
3:41
so
3:42
i definitely agree with what folks said
3:44
she has been a helpful resource for me
3:47
like i said just seeing her
3:48
transformation
3:49
help me you know buy in and go for it i
3:52
mean it's one thing to hear styles talk
3:54
at you like that
3:55
that a different thing to see somebody
3:57
actually
3:58
go through the transformation
4:00
so if you're not following her i'll
4:02
leave the link below and you should
4:05
next up
4:06
we are going to watch a video about a
4:09
common misconception about what a hair
4:12
detox is this is a
4:14
popular
4:15
treatment in the natural hair community
4:18
but
4:19
this is not what is meant by detoxing so
4:22
i'm gonna go ahead and get to this tick
4:24
tock
4:52
[Music]
4:59
okay good old bentonite clay
5:02
i too was once a clay person
5:05
very occasionally but
5:08
clay can do harm to your hair that's
5:10
irreversible so it only takes one time
5:13
to do it and mess up your hair
5:16
now this is tick tock and it's only you
5:19
know it's tick tock and you only get
5:21
like a minute or two of a person's hair
5:24
journey but after this young lady used
5:26
this clay um she has some beautiful
5:29
natural hair
5:30
um and after she used this clay i know
5:32
that she started wearing
5:34
wigs and weaves again that might have
5:35
just been a personal choice and this
5:38
video was like a year old and like
5:41
recently she did a big chop again like
5:44
she's super cute with or that you know
5:45
with short hair or with longer hair
5:47
but i almost wonder if you know her hair
5:50
just started not acting right after that
5:51
clay treatment
5:53
and that led to the decision again lots
5:55
of assumptions no facts you know these
5:57
are like cute hair videos from this
5:59
girls uh and it could have been that she
6:01
just wanted to chop her hair off but
6:02
please i have a video about why i don't
6:04
use clay
6:05
please be very careful with clay like
6:07
there are lots of diys for natural hair
6:09
that i'm like whatever if you want to
6:10
smash the avocado in your hair fine
6:12
banana
6:13
fine
6:14
um aloe vera juice fine
6:17
clay
6:18
and henna it's like if it works for you
6:21
it works but if it doesn't like the
6:22
damage is done and you can't do anything
6:24
but grow a whole new head of hair so our
6:27
next video is actually from a stylist
6:31
who is addressing
6:32
the misconception that clay
6:35
detoxes hair
6:36
so we're going to get into that video
6:40
okay i'm really glad you asked this
6:42
question and it's come up a lot so let's
6:44
get into it
6:45
clay masks do not hydrate hair they
6:48
don't actually clay removes oil it
6:50
absorbs oil that's what it does when we
6:52
use a clay mask on our skin it's usually
6:54
if we have oily skin something we need
6:56
to suck out of our pores
6:59
that being said clay is also not a
7:01
clarifying shampoo clarifying shampoo is
7:03
actually really good at doing what it
7:05
does and we don't need to use dirt
7:08
to clean our
7:09
hair
7:11
now on to the bit where i said it's
7:13
damaging so what it does because clay is
7:16
really abrasive the particles within it
7:18
it's scratching up the surface of your
7:20
hair strand called your cuticle
7:23
leaving behind what's essentially
7:25
mechanical damage and no it's not
7:27
reversible and yes it will affect your
7:29
hairstyles
7:30
and yes it'll mean you can't do hair
7:32
color if you want to
7:34
just in general
7:36
i would avoid playing okay so that was a
7:40
natural hair stylist um licensed
7:43
cosmetologist and her reasons for not
7:45
using clay
7:47
i strongly discourage the use of clay
7:50
and that's all i can say about it i was
7:51
there like it seems like the most
7:53
harmless thing
7:54
and the damage is so slow and gradual
7:57
like you won't even know that it was the
7:59
clay that
8:00
you won't even realize it was the clay
8:02
that was contributing to it especially
8:04
if there are other diys in the mix or
8:06
you've got hair color it's easy to
8:08
mistake the cause of
8:10
the damage but like i said it's one of
8:12
those things that
8:14
it once the damage is done it's
8:16
irreversible
8:18
and
8:19
something i would rather not learn
8:22
the hard way okay so we did an
8:23
introduction to the 30-day hair detox of
8:26
what it's meant to be
8:28
we did a common misconception of what
8:30
natural hair detoxing is with in terms
8:33
of bentonite clay
8:34
um next up we're going to go to a young
8:36
lady who gave the 30-day hair detox a
8:39
try
8:41
and always i'm sorry i think she
8:43
referred to as the no brothers no oils
8:44
challenge so she did the no brothers no
8:46
oils challenge
8:48
for an extended period of time
8:50
and here are her thoughts
8:54
i actually haven't used oils for like a
8:56
month or two because i really wanted to
8:57
properly test out the no oil the no
8:59
butter thing i kind of compared the two
9:01
using oil versus no oil in my recent
9:04
video go check it out i feel like my
9:06
hair looks like that this young lady
9:08
gave the no butters no oils challenge
9:12
a fair shot um by you know trying it out
9:15
for a month or two
9:16
but to be honest there's not enough
9:18
information in this one tick tock
9:20
because and she came out neutral
9:23
so but there's not enough information in
9:26
this tick tock
9:28
about what her hair care routine was
9:29
during the one to two months she just
9:31
said she didn't use oil
9:33
and it's more to the challenge than that
9:36
um and if you want to learn more i'm
9:39
gonna leave a link where you can get it
9:40
from the horse's mouth
9:43
okay so now the next video is just a
9:45
super cool one it is
9:47
the tiniest coils i have ever seen and
9:50
they're they are beautiful i think this
9:52
video came up under like the tag 4c here
9:57
and this young lady was just like look
9:59
you ca even if you have the tiniest
10:01
smallest possible
10:03
coils out there you can still get fine
10:06
hair if you are constantly adding water
10:09
to your hair so we're going to go ahead
10:11
and watch this tik tok
10:15
wear wash and goes
10:16
it allows your hair to get used to
10:18
curling up and over time can get defined
10:22
want your 4c coils to be defined and
10:27
do y'all see these coils like these
10:29
coils are so
10:31
beautiful like they're so tiny and
10:33
there's so many of them and it's just
10:36
it's just cool um like i said this one
10:38
is not really the no brothers oil
10:40
challenge
10:41
but she's just saying you know she got
10:44
these coils popping by doing wash and
10:46
goes on the regular and i thought that
10:48
was kind of cool
10:50
so that was that video
10:54
okay and our last tick tock for today is
10:56
a young lady who is skeptical um her her
11:01
videos are about a year old now but a
11:02
lot of them she she did a lot of videos
11:06
on the no butters no oils challenges
11:10
this lady young lady is a no brothers no
11:13
oil skeptic i didn't get to go through
11:15
like everything her account but
11:17
um from this video and just from a few
11:19
that i've seen
11:21
it's clear that maybe she didn't have
11:22
all the information she needed for the
11:24
no brothers noel's challenge
11:27
slash three day hair detox and she had
11:30
questions and some of you all might have
11:32
these same questions
11:33
so i'm gonna go ahead and play this
11:35
video
11:37
and
11:38
try to answer some of these from my own
11:40
experience
11:46
i have some questions for supporters of
11:48
this no oil stain one how are you
11:51
supposed to get nutrients into your hair
11:52
and don't say the shampoo and
11:53
conditioner because that's sitting on
11:54
here for like five minutes so
11:57
i wouldn't expect a face wash to do
11:59
everything i need to do you need some
12:01
creams on your face
12:02
question
12:03
is how do you get nutrients into your
12:05
hair and you will hear a lot of stylists
12:08
say that your hair does not have a
12:09
digestive system therefore getting
12:11
nutrients into your hair is not a thing
12:14
however let's just assume that it is
12:16
like even if you think there might be
12:18
some truth to nutrients being beneficial
12:19
to your hair humectants have nutrients
12:21
in them too um and that's what is
12:24
intended to be used if you just decide
12:26
to go you know there's
12:28
no raw butters no or no raw oils
12:32
approach if you use a botanical gel it
12:34
has plenty of nutrients in it from like
12:37
slippery elm marshmallow root and
12:39
especially aloe have plenty of
12:42
beneficial vitamins in them
12:45
and the second thing is it's not no raw
12:48
but it's no raw butter it's no raw oil
12:50
so technically you can use products that
12:52
have some of those nutrient-rich oils
12:55
and butters for your hair that's my
12:58
answer to that question i'm going to
12:59
continue watching this young lady when
13:01
you're doing long-term protective styles
13:03
like braids what do you do you tell me
13:06
just do water
13:08
okay
13:09
again
13:10
um long-term protective styles
13:12
i personally have not done a long-term
13:15
protective style in over a year since i
13:17
first started just doing wash it goes in
13:19
the regular i haven't done a long-term
13:20
protective style but if i was no water
13:23
is not the only not the only answer
13:25
there are plenty of humectant-based
13:27
leave-ins out there and again it's no
13:29
raw butters no raw oils so you can put a
13:32
leave-in that has a little bit of
13:35
conditioning agents a little bit of
13:37
butters and oils and braid up your hair
13:40
so that's my answer to that
13:42
three what about the styles that you
13:43
can't have your hair like soaking wet
13:46
like if i were to straighten my hair
13:48
like can i towel dry like you know
13:51
because
13:52
if i straighten i'm not gonna put mousse
13:54
or gel so what do you do okay
13:57
so again this young lady has a very
13:59
valid question what do you do when you
14:03
are on this no butters no oils challenge
14:06
and you want to straighten your hair and
14:09
you don't want to use mousse or gel no
14:12
no nobody ever said use mousse or gel to
14:15
straighten your hair um the stylists who
14:18
found this challenge
14:19
are primarily wash and go stylist
14:22
but in general
14:24
people who straighten their hair like
14:26
deeper than hair go look at deeper than
14:27
hair's um products go look at her
14:29
leaving go look at her shine serum none
14:32
of those are heavy in oils and butters
14:34
because you don't really want oils and
14:35
butters on your hair when you're blowing
14:37
it out because when you heat up an oil
14:39
or butter you are actually like frying
14:41
your hair what do you do with oil you
14:43
put it in the pan and you fry things
14:46
so what is actually anything in the
14:48
products when you straighten your hair
14:49
is silicones
14:51
silicones humectants conditioning agents
14:54
those products may have some oils and
14:57
butters in it but normally those
14:59
products by stylists who do those silk
15:01
press and blowouts and those straight
15:02
styles
15:03
it is not oils and butters it hasn't
15:07
i'm trying i would say never but i feel
15:09
like they used to press your hair with
15:10
grease but we've come a long
15:12
way since then so please please please
15:15
please just
15:17
no like the the 30 day hair detox is
15:20
more geared towards wash and go's and
15:22
twist outs but even while you're
15:23
straightening your hair please please
15:25
please
15:26
get something
15:27
that is meant to blow out or straighten
15:30
your hair like a blowout spray
15:33
or a serum or something and don't be too
15:36
heavy-handed with it that was the end of
15:38
her video um and that is the end of this
15:41
video
15:42
these are always fun um i'll be sure to
15:45
do one another one of these again
15:47
uh thanks for watching
